Play session timer with a half-time check and a break reminder

Set the session length before you log in

1. Enter the session length in minutes and the break you will take afterwards.
2. Press Start before you open a game, not a few rounds in.
3. Press Pause if you step away, for instance to take a call. Press Start again to carry on.
4. Reset puts the full length back. Changing the minutes while the timer is not running also resets it.

The countdown runs off the device clock. If your phone locks the screen or you switch tabs, the display may stop updating, but the time left is recalculated correctly when you come back. Because the timer is silent, keep it where you can see it, or set a phone alarm as well.

Match the length to your budget. If the monthly entertainment budget planner gives you RM 200 for four sessions, the length of each session decides how fast that RM 50 goes.

The half-time reminder: check balance and budget

When half the time has passed, the half-time box changes. For a 60-minute session that happens with 30:00 left. Use the moment for three quick questions:

• What is my balance now compared with when I started?
• Am I still betting the amount I planned?
• Am I still enjoying this, or am I trying to win money back?

If the honest answer to the third is "winning it back", that is a good reason to stop early. Ending before the timer runs out costs you nothing.

A proper break when the countdown hits zero

When the time left reaches 0:00, the status changes to Finished and the break box asks you to close the game. A break of at least 15 minutes away from the screen is a sensible starting point: stand up, drink some water, leave the room.

The break is not a wait for your "turn" to come round. Every round is independent of the last, so a pause does not change the odds. What it changes is you: decisions made after a break are usually calmer.

Why time flies while you play

Plenty of players are surprised when they look at the clock after a session. A few common reasons:

• Fast rounds: a slot spin can take only a few seconds, and autoplay removes the gap between spins.
• No natural stopping point: there is no final whistle or end of an innings as in sport.
• Deep focus: when you are absorbed in the results, your sense of time fades.
• Near misses: an outcome that almost landed makes "one more round" feel reasonable.

An outside timer helps because it does not rely on your feeling of how long you have been playing.
